What is Ayurveda?
Originating from the Indus Valley in India, ayurveda is the oldest medical practice in the world,
dating back to around 3,500 BC. Today, this ancient system of treatment is attracting growing
interest and wider use all over the world. Its aim is to diagnose by evaluating both the body
and the mind. Thus, with the appropriate treatment, people can lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
A holistic system consisting of diet, yoga, massage, detoxification, herbal medicine and
meditation. It has been used for centuries to treat many diseases, including paralysis,
diabetes mental illnesses, rheumatoid arthritis and respiratory diseases, as well as minor
ailments disease prevention and rejuvenation.
Ayurveda treats your mind, body, and spirit and relieves symptoms of disease. Moreover,
it can be used for on a long term basis with no ill effect and helps to prevent illness, rather
than simply waiting to cure it. Prevention is a key tenet in ayurveda.
According to ayurveda, the universe and each individual within it are composed of five
elements, called the panchamahabhutus, and three vital energies called the doshas.
The five elements are air, fire, water, earth, and Space, the three doshas are vata, kapha,
and pitta. An imbalance in the doshas will bring about illness and disease. Ayurveda is utilized
to restore equilibrium between the three doshas and to obtain perfect health.
